The best answer to "is this transit any good?"

The gochara table's blind spot

The gochara table from the Transits chapter answers "which house from the Moon is this graha in?" and gives the same verdict to everyone with that configuration.

But two people can both have Saturn transiting their 6th from the Moon and have completely different charts underneath it. The table can't see that.

Ashtakavarga can. It supplies the chart-specific dimension the gochara table lacks.

Transit through your own bindus

The rule is simple and it is the single most practically useful thing in this chapter:

> Judge a transiting graha by the bindu count that sign holds in that graha's own BAV.

Saturn transiting a sign holding 6 or 7 bindus in Saturn's BAV tends to deliver — Saturn is well-supported there in this chart. Saturn transiting a sign with 1 or 2 tends to be a harder passage, whatever the general table says.

Note the emphasis: that graha's own BAV, not the SAV. For Saturn's transit you read Saturn's BAV.

The conventional dividing line

A sign's BAV score for a graha runs 0 to 8, so the natural midpoint is 4.

Conventionally, 5 or more bindus is read as supportive and 3 or fewer as thin, with 4 neutral. It is a rule of thumb rather than a hard rule, and the comparative reading is again the better one: of the twelve signs, where does this graha have most and least?

Applied to Sade Sati, this is genuinely informative. Someone whose 12th, 1st and 2nd from the Moon hold high Saturn bindus is in a very different 7½ years from someone whose hold low ones — and it is the most useful refinement anyone can make to that reading.

Where this sits in the hierarchy

Ashtakavarga refines the third tool. Recall the ordering: the chart promises, the dasha activates, the transit triggers.

Ashtakavarga makes the transit reading chart-specific and much better. It does not promote transits above dasha, and it does not touch the natal promise at all.

So the full question becomes: is it promised? is a relevant dasha running? is the transit favourable by the table — and is the graha well-stocked in that sign in this chart? Four checks, in that order.

Remember it

For a transit, read the transiting graha's OWN BAV at the sign it's entering. 5+ supportive, 3− thin. It makes the transit personal — it doesn't make it more important.
