The Limits, and How to Speak

What this method does not claim, and how to say what it does.

What Jyotish claims

Everything in this school has been framed the same way, and it is time to say why explicitly.

Jyotish describes tendencies and windows — the grain of a life and the periods when particular themes are live. It is a symbolic language for describing structure and timing.

It does not deliver certainties. A chart is not a schedule, and no combination of factors makes an outcome inevitable. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

The things not to say

Some readings should not be given, whatever the chart appears to show:

• Never predict death, or a date for it. Longevity judgement is a specialist classical topic hedged with cautions in the texts themselves, and a stated date does harm whether or not it is right.
• Never diagnose disease. A chart is not a medical instrument. Signal concern if you must; say "worth having checked", not "you have".
• Never predict disaster or ruin as fixed. Difficulty described as a window someone can prepare for is useful. The same difficulty described as fate is just fear.
• Never frame anything as unavoidable. Even a strong, well-supported theme is a tendency operating in a life full of choices.

The things to say instead

The same finding can almost always be stated usefully.

The second column is more accurate, not merely kinder. Fatalistic phrasing overstates what the method actually supports.

Say what it rests on

One last discipline, and it is the one that separates a reading from a pronouncement: show your evidence.

"Partnership tends to take longer to settle here — the 7th lord is in the 12th, Venus is combust, and Saturn aspects the 7th" invites the listener to weigh it. "Partnership will take longer" asks them to take your word.

The first is checkable, and being checkable is what keeps the practice honest. It also means that where a classical source is being invoked, it gets named — never a Sanskrit quotation invented to lend weight.

Remember it

Tendencies, not certainties. Windows, not dates. Evidence, not authority. And never death, disease, or doom.
