Two charts, one set of math

Everything you've learned casts a chart for one moment. Change the moment and you change the chart — same math, different snapshot.

The natal chart (birth chart, janma kundali) freezes the sky at the moment of birth. It is your fixed baseline, and it never changes.

The chart you're born with

Your natal chart is a pure function of birth time + birthplace (with the ayanamsa). Once it's cast it's permanent: your lagna, your grahas in their signs and houses, your Moon sign, your birth star.

It is the map of you — the promise you carry through life.

The moving sky — gochara

Meanwhile the real planets never stop moving. Reading today's planets against your fixed natal chart is called gochara — transits.

"Transiting Shani (Saturn) is now crossing my natal Moon" is a gochara statement: a moving graha passing over a fixed point in your birth chart.

Why transits give timing

The two charts answer different questions. The natal chart shows promise — the tendencies you carry. Transits (together with dashas) show timing — when those tendencies are likely to ripen.

A moving graha activates a natal point as it passes over it. No fate sealed in stone — only windows and tendencies, the when and the how-much.

Board and pieces

Picture the natal chart as the board and transits as the pieces moving across it. The board is yours for life; the pieces keep moving — and where they land now is the when.
