One axis, every step, and the limits that keep node readings honest.

Reading an axis

The checklist

Given one chart, here is the whole method in order:

1. Axis. Which two houses and signs? Which end is Rahu's?
2. Status. Apply the conventions: no dignity, the 7th aspect lands on the other node, never combust. Remember where traditions differ.
3. Employers. Each node's dispositor and star lord, and how those lords are placed.
4. Company. Grahas sharing a sign with either node, especially the Sun, Moon and Jupiter.
5. Timing. When does a Rahu or Ketu period run? When do transits cross this axis?
6. Language. Tendencies and windows, stated plainly.

An axis, end to end (part 1)

Sagittarius lagna. Rahu at 22° Aries (5th house). Ketu at 22° Libra (11th house). Sun at 5° Aries (exalted). Mars in Capricorn (2nd house, exalted). Venus at 8° Aries (5th house, combust). Jupiter in Sagittarius (1st house, own sign).

1. Axis: 5/11. Rahu amplifies creativity, learning and self-expression. Ketu holds networks and gains lightly.
2. Status: both nodes neutral. Rahu is not combust, even with the Sun in its sign. Rahu's 7th aspect falls on the 11th, which is Ketu's house.
3. Rahu's employers: its dispositor Mars (lord of the 5th and 12th) is exalted in the 2nd, which gives strong drive toward earning and speaking. Its star is Bharani, so its star lord is Venus (lord of the 6th and 11th), sitting combust in the 5th beside Rahu and the Sun: daily work and gains come with more effort.

Continuing the same chart.

3. Ketu's employers: its dispositor is Venus again, still combust in the 5th. Its star is Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter, the lagna lord, strong in its own sign in the 1st.
4. Company: the Sun (lord of the 9th) and a combust Venus share Aries with Rahu, so the grahana flag fires. They are 17° apart, which is a wide meeting. Read it as a hunger for recognition added to the 5th-house themes, carried by an exalted Sun.
5. Timing: a Rahu Mahadasha would run through Mars and Venus. Expect expanding creative and intellectual ambition, with Venus's combustion showing up as effort around work and gains.
6. Language: "A strong pull toward creative and intellectual self-expression, well supported by a dignified Mars and Sun. The harder work sits in daily work and gains, and crowds and gains matter less to this person."

There are no dates, no doom and no guarantees in that sentence.

Named node patterns, with their base rates

The engine detects three named patterns involving the nodes. Here is how often each one showed up in a 2000–2040 engine run:

| Kala Sarpa | All seven grahas on one side of the axis (sign-level) | about 16% |

Traditions disagree about how to define these, and about how much weight they carry. Kala Sarpa in particular is defined several ways. Whatever the definition, a pattern that one person in three to six carries describes a theme. It doesn't pass a sentence.

The limits

What honest node reading won't do:

Name a date for an event. Periods and transits give windows.
Decide a life area on one node. Ketu in the 7th doesn't settle a partnership, and Rahu in the 10th doesn't guarantee a career.
Skip the employers. A node read without its dispositor and star lord is a horoscope column.
Sell fear. If someone says a node placement needs an urgent, expensive remedy, notice that they skipped every step of the checklist to get there.

The nodes are the most dramatised grahas in popular astrology, so they are the ones that most need slow, ordinary method.

Remember it

Axis, status, employers, company, timing, language. Six steps. The last one, saying it without fear, is the one people skip.

Terms introduced here

One axis, two ends: Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path. They are always exactly 180° apart and are read as one unit.
Acting through the dispositor: A node owns nothing, so it works for the lord of the sign it occupies, and that lord's condition shapes what the node delivers.
Nodes with the Sun and Moon: The Sun or Moon sharing a sign with a node gives a theme of self or feeling worked out more intensely. It is a theme, not a curse.
Reading the nodes without fear: Node patterns are common, conventions differ, and every node reading goes through its employers. Fear-talk skips all three.
