Doshas & Their Cancellations

The two big deductions — and the clauses most reports leave out.

Fifteen points, two rules

Nadi (8) and Bhakoot (7) are 15 of the 36 points, and both are pass/fail. Between them they decide whether a match "passes" far more often than the other six kootas combined.

Which is exactly why the classical cancellation clauses matter — and why it is worth knowing that most automated reports omit them entirely and report the raw deduction as final.

Nadi dosha cancellations

Same-nadi is Nadi dosha. The classics list conditions under which it does not stand. The ones this app checks:

• Both partners share the same nakshatra but have different Moon signs.
• Both share the same nakshatra but different padas.
• Both share the same Moon sign but different nakshatras.

The common thread: the apparent identity is superficial — the two Moons are in genuinely different places despite falling in the same channel.

When a cancellation applies, the classical instruction is that the dosha does not carry the weight the raw score implies.

Bhakoot dosha cancellations

Bhakoot dosha — a 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 Moon-sign relation — also has cancellations. The ones checked here:

• The two Moon signs share the same lord. (Aries and Scorpio are 6/8 apart, but Mars rules both.)
• The two Moon sign lords are mutual friends in the natural friendship table.

Again the logic holds together: bhakoot is about the relationship between the two signs, and if their rulers are the same graha or natural friends, the relationship isn't hostile in the way the raw count assumes.

What a cancellation is and isn't

A cancellation does not add points back to the total. The arithmetic is unchanged — the score stays what it is.

What it changes is the interpretation: it says this particular deduction should not be read as the obstacle the number suggests.

So a report reading "22/36, nadi dosha present" and one reading "22/36, nadi dosha present but cancelled — same nakshatra, different Moon signs" describe very different situations from identical arithmetic. Only the second is a complete answer.

Remember it

Nadi and Bhakoot are 15 points and both pass/fail — so always check the cancellation clauses before repeating a number. A cancelled dosha keeps its arithmetic and loses its weight.
