Bhavas — The 12 Houses
What a House Lord Is
Every house has a sign; every sign has a ruler — and that ruler becomes the house's lord.
The lord of a house
Two facts you already know
You already know both halves of this:
- Each house holds a sign (you just counted them).
- Each sign has a ruling planet (from the Grahas track — Aries→Mars, Taurus→Venus, and so on).
Put them together and you get the house's lord.
House → sign → lord
The lord of a house (bhava-adhipati) is the ruling planet of the sign sitting in that house.
Example: if your 7th house is Libra, and Libra is ruled by Venus, then Venus is your 7th lord — the planet in charge of partnership matters.
The lord carries the house
This is the key idea for everything ahead: a house's lord carries that house's matters wherever it goes in the chart. To read the 7th (marriage), you don't just look at the 7th house — you follow its lord and see how it fares. That's the whole game.
One line to remember
A house is only as strong as its lord.
The house names the topic; the lord tells you how the story tends to go.
