Finding Your House Lords

Work the two-step across a few lagnas — and see why the same house has different lords for different people.

Aries lagna, worked out

With an Aries lagna, count the signs into the houses, then name each ruler:

• 1st = Aries → Mars
• 4th = Cancer → Moon
• 7th = Libra → Venus
• 10th = Capricorn → Saturn

So for this chart the 7th (marriage) lord is Venus and the 10th (career) lord is Saturn.

Change the lagna, change the lords

Now a Taurus lagna:

• 1st = Taurus → Venus
• 7th = Scorpio → Mars

Same house numbers, different lords. The lagna sets which sign falls in each house, so your house lords are personal to your chart — just like the houses themselves.

Try it before the practical

Quick mental rep: with a Leo lagna, what sign is the 4th house, and who rules it?

(Leo → count four: Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio. Scorpio is ruled by Mars — so Mars is the 4th lord.)
