## What VedicStars Gurukul is

VedicStars Gurukul teaches the *system* of Vedic astrology, not horoscopes. Learners progress through a guided skill map and learn to read a birth chart (kundali) themselves, starting with their own. Each node is a short, graphics-rich lesson on one idea, a practical that finds that idea in the learner's own chart, and a quiz that must be passed before the next node lights up.

The course, as its structured data names it: "Vedic Astrology (Jyotish): From First Star to Chart Reading" — beginner to intermediate, online, about twenty minutes a session.

## The curriculum

28 tracks, 175 levels, 221 lessons, 1,033 concept cards, 1,563 quiz questions, and a glossary of 337 terms. Sixteen tracks (111 levels) are free; twelve advanced tracks (64 levels) need Gurukul Plus. Tracks unlock through mastery prerequisites: the free path runs from Foundations through Synthesis, with side chapters opening along the way, and the Plus chapters branch from there.

1. **Foundations of Vedic Astrology** (9 levels) — start here: the story and the building blocks. Where Jyotish came from (the rishi lineage up to P.V.R. Narasimha Rao), the nine grahas as celestial bodies, the twelve rashis and why Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac, the 27 nakshatras, the wheel of the sky (one circle, two grids), the Vedic calendar (the panchanga), the lagna and why time and place matter, the twelve bhavas, and the classic beginner mix-up of bhava versus rashi.

8. **Drishti & Yuti — How Grahas Reach Each Other** (5 levels) — aspects, conjunction and sign exchange. What a drishti is, the special aspects of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, yuti (conjunction), parivartana (sign exchange), and a capstone mapping the web in a chart.
9. **The Twelve Lagnas** (6 levels) — why the same planet helps one chart and strains another. Lordship before nature, kendra lords and the hard lords, the yogakaraka, the six lagnas with a yogakaraka and the six without, and a capstone on weighing functional nature.

Remedies must be earned by the chart, strengthening versus pacifying, conduct, service, dana and devotion, the doshas people are frightened with, red flags, and a capstone on weighing a recommendation.
16. **Synthesis — Reading a Whole Chart** (5 levels) — putting every layer together, in order, in proportion. The order of operations, weighting and repetition, contradiction and timing, the limits and how to speak, and a final capstone reading a chart end to end.

## How it works

- **Mastery gate.** Every level ends in a quiz. The next level unlocks only when the quiz is passed at 80%, so progress reflects genuine understanding. Quizzes use eight question types: multiple choice, true/false, matching pairs, placing on a chart, identifying an image, ordering a sequence, filling a blank, and hotspot. Answers are graded on the server and never sent to the browser.
- **Practicals on your own chart.** You add your birth details once; each lesson's practical then shows where the idea lands in your chart, and the grading recomputes the truth from your chart on the server. Interactive-chart quiz questions use a fixed library of seeded teaching charts, not real user birth data.
- **Placement.** A short adaptive placement quiz of three to eight questions finds the earliest level you have not yet shown competence in and starts you there.
- **Sky Review.** Spaced repetition (the FSRS algorithm, scheduled in whole days, targeting 90% retention) brings earlier material back before it fades. Each review is rated Again, Hard, Good or Easy.
- **Game feel, adult and zen by default.** XP for each lesson completed (10), each quiz passed (50 plus a bonus for scoring above the threshold) and each perfect quiz (25); learner levels; a daily streak; a skill map; and 31 badges — from First Light (master your first level) and Seven Tithis (a 7-day streak), through an "Adept" badge for finishing each track, to Jyotishi for completing the whole curriculum. No hearts, no lives.
- **One account.** Sign-in is passwordless (a one-time code by email) or Google, and one VedicStars account works across the whole suite. It runs in any browser and installs as a PWA.

## Correctness principles

- All chart math is deterministic: a pure function of birth time, location and ayanamsa, computed with the Swiss Ephemeris and cached. No astrology is ever computed by a language model.
- The default ayanamsa is Pushya-paksha (P.V.R. Narasimha Rao's).
- Classical references are delivered with citations and are never invented. Sanskrit quotes are not fabricated.
- No fear-framing or fatalism: Jyotish is taught as a symbolic language of tendencies and timing — windows, never doom.

The free path is the majority of the curriculum.
- **Gurukul Plus: ₹199 a month, or ₹1,999 a year** (about two months free). Both are charged on a Razorpay mandate (card or UPI autopay) that renews until cancelled. Cancelling takes one click in the account, stops every future charge, and Plus runs to the end of the period already paid for — after which free access simply continues.
- **Plus opens** the twelve advanced tracks — divisional charts (vargas), Jaimini karakas and arudhas, marriage and career, transits and Sade Sati, dasha timing, compatibility (guna milan), ashtakavarga, muhurta, prashna, KP and Bhrigu Nandi Nadi — and raises saved charts from one to four, so a learner can practise on family charts, a friend's, or a favourite star's alongside their own.

### Refunds

- Full refund within 7 days of buying a Plus term, for any reason. The account returns to the free tier; progress, streak and XP stay as they are.

**What is Jyotish?**
Jyotish, often called Vedic astrology, is the traditional Indian system of astronomy and astrology. It uses the sidereal zodiac, fixed against the stars, rather than the tropical zodiac of Western astrology.

**Do I need to know any astrology to start?**
No. The path begins at absolute beginner and builds one concept at a time. A short placement quiz can start you further along if you already know the fundamentals.

**How is this different from a horoscope app?**
You learn to read a chart yourself — starting with your own — instead of being handed a prediction. The math is computed from a real ephemeris, sources are cited, and the framing is symbolic — never fatalism.

**Whose charts do I learn on?**
Your own, from the first practical — you add your birth details and each lesson shows where the idea lands in your chart. It's a real ephemeris computation, framed as tendencies, never fate. On Gurukul Plus you can add up to three more people you know — family, a friend, a favourite star — and practise on their charts too.

**How does the mastery-gated path work?**

- Birth data is treated as sensitive. It is held to compute your chart on VedicStars' own servers, is never sold, never used for advertising profiles, and never shared with advertisers.

Read the natal promise first, because it decides whether the chart leans early or late — then pick the window inside it. Anyone giving you a single year is guessing.

What the texts do describe is whether romance (the 5th house) is structurally wired into marriage (the 7th), whether family and lineage (the 9th and 2nd) mediate it, and whether the partner comes from outside one's own background (Rahu touching the 7th, Venus or the Upapada). Read those three as leanings, never as verdicts — and treat delay, friction and Kuja dosha as separate questions that say nothing about who chose.

Find the lists that apply to you by taking your 10th lord, any planet in your 10th, and any planet sitting with your 10th lord. Raman wrote no list for Rahu or Ketu.
